There is nothing better than High School football in a small town. (Especially in Texas!)
Let me paint you a picture. If it’s a home game, the entire town will show up for the 3:30 pep-rally in the High school gym. (Even if you don’t have a kid in the game.) By 6pm, everything in town is closed except places to eat or get gas.
By the time of kick-off (usually around 7:30pm), if you are in town, you are at the game cheering on the cheer leaders, the band and the team. Everyone knows everyone and not only can you experience a totally unique since of community, you can also catch up on everything and everyone in town. lol
Now here in Texas, our small towns take it a step further and actually follow our teams (even if they are losing) to all the away games. Picture the last scene in the movie “Field of Dreams” where you see headlights for miles. That’s us, behind the buses, supporting our local kids.
Last night we had a scrimmage and it was meet the kids and coaches night. It was so much fun and it got me excited about the upcoming season. I love my home town and how you feel like you are part of a really big family.
Being a part of a community can also improve your chances of a successful business. Find like minded people to surround yourself with, join groups that will hold you accountable and encourage you, and find people that you can trust and learn from.
I will leave you with this quote from the movie “Friday Night Lights“, “Success is not a goal; it’s a byproduct.”
